The Revolution will Not be Televised- Gil Scott-Heron Adapted by D. Segura for 2020

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Gil Scott-Heron- Adapted for 7/19/2020 by Daniel Segura
Gil Scott-Heron said about this poem that “The first change that takes place is in your mind. You have to change your mind before you change the way you live and the way you move. So when we said that the revolution will not be televised, we’re saying that the thing that’s going to change people is something that no one will ever be able to capture on film. It’ll just be something you see and all of a sudden you realize, I’m on the wrong page, or I’m on the right page but I’m on the wrong note.” speaking to Skip Blumberg for the award-winning Public Broadcast System series ‘The 90’s.’

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

You will not be able to stay home, brother or sister
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out
You will not be able to lose yourself on Legal Weed
And tune out with noise cancelling earbuds,

Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be Live Streamed on Fake News
The revolution will not be brought to you
By Glaxo Smith Kline- “So check with your doctor to see if Abreva is right for you.”

The revolution will not show you video of Mexico paying for The Wall
or be designed behind the scenes by Stephen Miller, Breitbart or Steve Bannon
To eat taco salad from your company’s cafeteria on Cinco de Mayo.
The revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be brought to you by Chick Fil A
and will not star Dwayne Johnson, Tom Hanks, Chris Rock OR Chuck Woolery.

The revolution will not make your pits OldSpice-Impossibly-Dry
The revolution will not tell Alexa to play your favorite song
The revolution will not give your abs more definition because
The revolution will not be televised, brother and sister

There will be no video ramifications for a White Woman Spraying BLM on Starbucks
Or of a disguised White Man breaking windows to try to start looting
Or of police slicing the tires of peaceful protesters.

NBC will not be able predict the winner
At 8:32 on report from twenty-nine districts

The revolution will not be televised

There will be no Twitter vids of cops shooting the disabled in the eye on Netflix
There will be no Tik Toks of police arresting peaceful demonstrators on Amazon Prime
There will be no subscribe-to-Washington-Post-to-see pictures of clergy making a living wall
To protect peaceful protesters from police with billy-clubs and riot gear

There will be no videos on repeat of the life leaving George Floyd
Under the knee of a smiling white police officer while his partners watch

Game of Thrones, the Mandalorian, the Witcher,
and The Office will no longer be so damn relevant.
And Karens will not care to hear “All the Places You Will Go.”
during daytime tv on the Ellen Show
Because black people will STILL be in the street looking for a brighter day.

The revolution will not be televised

There will be no headlines popping up on your Apple Watch
And no pictures of women marching with brown and pink pussy hats
Nor Elijah Cummings’ widow needing to defend him from a President.

The theme song will not be written by Ed Sheeran or Childish Gambino
Nor sung by Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Eminem, Alicia Keys or the Dixie Chicks.

The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not load after you skip the ads
about White Claw, White Castle, or White Men trying to keep the White House for White Men.

You will not have to worry about the Axe bodyspray on your teen boy,
the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, or the globe heating closer to boiling

The revolution will not make you feel less guilty with low carb beer
The revolution will not help you choose the right blood sugar monitor

The revolution WILL put you in the driver's seat

The revolution will not be monetized
Will not be body-cammed
Will not be tweeted
Will NOT be televised

The revolution will be NO “on-demand,” brothers and sisters.

The revolution will be live
